Dumb Little Man

  • Indulge in a 15-minute massage at one of those drop-in places in the mall. Use the time to think through all the things you're happy about in your life.
  • Cancel a meeting or appointment that you really don't want (and possibly need) to do, and either take yourself out for a coffee or meet a friend for a quick catch-up.
  • Spend even 10 minutes (more is great as well) on one of those things you've always wanted to do.
  • If you really can't escape your planned day then take a few minutes to book a treat for yourself – a facial, a hair appointment, time with a friend etc
  • Write a 5-minute bullet point business plan for that great idea you've been harbouring for years
  • Get into the great outdoors (nature!) and take a few lungfuls of clean, fresh air – let it clear out the cobwebs!
  • What else would you add to that list? Think of the things you always tell yourself you'll do one day when you get the time – those would all work. It doesn't really matter what you do, the key is simply to find something that acts as a bridge between a grumpy mood and a happy you.

Pick The Brain

  1. Following Your Dreams Connects You to Your Inner Self. If you want to be happy right down to the core of your being, you need to be a big dreamer.
  2. Because You Have a Choice. You should be a big dreamer because you do have a choice in the matter. You can choose to follow your biggest dreams.
  3. You'll Be Following Your True Calling. There are not many feelings that could be considered better than knowing that you've found the meaning in your life.
  4. Your Dreams Will Come True. Your dreams don't need to remain dreams forever; they have a real possibility of coming true. If you're a big dreamer, you'll achieve big dreams.
  5. You'll Be Open to Possibilities. You'll encounter a good amount of excitement as you go about life because you'll be in adventurous and unpredictable situations.
  6. You'll Achieve More. You may even end up achieving more than you ever thought you could.
  7. It's the Right Thing to Do for the World. Big dreams are the reasons why the world changes for the better. Big dreams give you the opportunity to truly leave your mark on the world.

Dumb Little Man

  1. Passion. Passion is power. Passion gives you the strength to overcome the barriers which block success. The first key to success is "passion," you must follow your passion.
  2. Experience. All successful people have experience. Before you succeed you may need 5, 10, or even 20 years of experience. Experience is priceless!
  3. Unique Ideas. Ideas are the foundation of success. What unique ideas do you have? It's an awesome thing, ideas that are "free" can actually make you successful.
  4. Faith and Courage. Without faith and courage you'll never succeed. To unlock your true potential you're going to have to exercise your faith and utilize your courage.
  5. Focus. Focus gives you the power to break the barrier of mediocrity. Never lose focus!
  6. Determination and Discipline. In order to succeed you're going to need discipline and determination. You must become like the bulldog to succeed.

Pick The Brain

  1. Personal Development Game Plan. First off, you need to have a system to reach your development goals. There is no use in simply talking about how badly you want to attain self-awareness or development. You will need to adopt a system and see the big picture.
  2. Take the Plunge. You may have enough motivation or positive thoughts, but if you do not take action today, your personal development will never become a reality.
  3. Open Yourself to Change. The operative word in personal development is change. If you cannot handle change, then you will never be able to improve yourself.
  4. Sit on the Shoulders of Giants. If you want to speed up your personal development, you need to learn from people who have been in your shoes before.
  5. Be Responsible for Your Personal Development. You are what you allow yourself to be. In other words, the things that define you today have happened because you allowed them. If you have been lazy or indifferent all these years, you have no one to put the blame on but yourself.

Zen Habits

Tips for a Slower-Paced Life

  1. Do less. Cut back on your projects, on your task list, on how much you try to do each day.
  2. Have fewer meetings. Meetings are usually a big waste of time.
  3. Practice disconnecting. Have times when you turn off your devices and your email notifications and whatnot.
  4. Give yourself time to get ready and get there. If you're constantly rushing to appointments or other places you have to be, it's because you don't allot enough time in your schedule for preparing and for traveling.
  5. Practice being comfortable with sitting, doing nothing. Try just sitting there, looking around, soaking in your surroundings.
  6. Realize that if it doesn't get done, that's OK. There's always tomorrow.
  7. Start to eliminate the unnecessary. Ask yourself: how necessary are these things? What would happen if I stopped doing them? How can I eliminate them, delegate them, automate them?
  8. Practice mindfulness. Simply learn to live in the present, rather than thinking so much about the future or the past.
  9. Slowly eliminate commitments. We're overcommitted, which is why we're rushing around so much. I don't just mean with work — projects and meetings and the like.  But in trying to cram so much into our lives, we're actually deteriorating the quality of those lives.
